Conant girls’ basketball loses in first round of Division III playoffs

After compiling a record of 10-8 during the regular season, Conant earned the 10th seed in the state Division III girls’ basketball championships and a first-round game at White Mountains Wednesday.

The Orioles lost 48-44, bringing an end to their season. Senior co-captain Hannah Manley led the way in the final game of her high school career, scoring 15 points to go with nine rebounds, four assists, nine steals and a block.

Violet Bennett added nine points, followed by Ella Desrosier with eight, senior co-captain Lola Hayes with six, Myla Jones with four and Merry Hill with two.

For the game, Conant shot 14-54 (29%) from the floor, and 2-19 (11%) from 3-point range. The Orioles outrebounded White Mountains, 31-25, and forced 26 turnovers while committing 21.

Mascenic girls win finale

Sienna Gregory scored 17 points to go along with five steals and nine rebounds as Mascenic beat Nute 38-20 Feb. 17.

Jordin Schuler added nine points, five steals and rebounds both, and both she and Gregory played strong defense.

While the girls finished their season with a record of 5-13, Mascenic’s boys made the Division IV state playoffs. The Vikings’ 9-9 record earned them the 10th seed and a first-found game in Gorham, scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m.
